32 Extension Ladder

I can not afford Advertising / Public Relations Campaign – I can?
It's a phrase I hear over and over again for many entrepreneurs, owners small businesses and inventors: "I would love to hire someone to launch our publicity campaign professionally, but you can afford and I'm just going to have to do it on my own. "
In recent months I have been conducting an informal survey among entrepreneurs and owners of businesses that have contacted me about my services. I found that due to lack of information or knowledge on the subject, many companies often overstate or exceed the estimate of the cost of a public relations campaign prospective. PR During my consultations with them, I asked: "How do you think will cost to implement a solid, effective PR / publicity campaign for your product or business? "Of the 102 people I have consulted:
• 11% – Thought a professional PR campaign would cost $ 10,000 + per month
· 32% – Thought a professional PR campaign would cost $ 5,000 – $ 10,000 per month
· 39% – Thought a professional PR campaign would cost $ 3,000 – $ 5,000 per month
· 12% – Thought a professional PR campaign would cost $ 1,000 – $ 3,000 per month
• 6% – Thought a professional campaign Public relations would cost less than $ 1,000 per month
The truth is – you can get an advertising and public relations campaign in all ranges prices. What you get for your money and effectiveness of the campaign will be is the real issue. It is true that the more you pay the more you receive. But for maximum publicity / PR exposure does not mean you have to get public relations agency more expensive or specialist.
A good rule of thumb is to align a public relations firm that best reflects the size of your business. Most times their rates will be in accordance with its public relations budget outlook. If you own a small business with two employees, there is no need to hire a public relations agency in U.S. high with dozens of employees. Find a public relations firm whose office size and capabilities closely resemble your business.
Case in point – there is a large public relations agency in a Luxury downtown building a few miles from my office. Frankly, we are not even competition to each other – indeed, even mentioned customers together. Why? They often work with large corporations and implement campaigns about $ 10,000 per month. My business works with small and medium enterprises. Mechanically, the center of the company and my business do the same when it comes to PR campaigns: Press release of the professional composition, large media market research, articulate personalized distribution to the media; months of media relations (article placements / interview scheduling / media request fulfillment, clipping / tracking of media placements, etc.).
The firm with the big company will not necessarily mean a partner with experience working in his campaign. So are you getting what you are paying for? A friend of mine who works at a major public relations firm I gave the following breakdown of billing fees in his office:
Interns · / Junior Executives – bill at $ 75 / Hour
(Very little or no work experience)
Account · Run – invoice $ 100 – $ 125 / hour
(3.1 years of professional experience)
· High Account Executives – bill at $ 125 – $ 200 / hour
(Multiple years of professional experience. Agency decision makers.)
Compare prices for many small PR shops or individual PR specialists. Many businesses have started their own PR after years of experience in the industry and typically charge $ 50 – $ 100 per hour to launch and maintain your campaign professionally. Many times you can get an experienced PR veteran who will work directly with you and your staff cheaper than the "Intern / Junior" executive rate at a company in the city.
Without But a word of advice – when choosing a smaller firm or individual to do public relations, to ensure they have the same tools that larger organisms do: date lists of media / contacts, personalized media distribution capabilities, professional cutting / services monitoring to obtain copies of each of the media placements (articles, tapes of television and radio) as well as the intangibles of expert communication and media relations skills and professional skills of pitching. If they are cheaper, but do not have all the tools to help you in the best possible way, probably better spending a little extra money to ensure that your campaign is launched and maintained correctly.
The main advantages of hiring a professional (individual public relations specialist or PR firm) to launch your campaign are:
· Implementation proper campaign – incorrectly composed or poorly pitched campaigns are the sharp reduction of many public relations efforts. Poorly written press releases on the market, not calculated, the mass Misdirected e-mail of the court of liberation does not keep track of media relations / media request fulfillment, etc. His first impression of the media is durable – make sure it is a good idea.
· Contacts for the media – Most public relations agencies have established media contacts over multiple years can lead to a better and more numerous media placements for your campaign. Let your foot in the door through which benefits.
· Efficiency and effectiveness – PR specialists / agencies generate publicity full time, 8-12 hours a day and know the pros and outs, shortcuts and secrets to do the job better and faster. Of course I could hang your own drywall or do your own pipe, but has the tools, time and experience to make it cost effective? I always tell my clients, "Do what you do well, I'll do what I do well and collectively we will move this business higher up the ladder. "
One caveat when it comes to choosing a professional PR agency or individual to work with – signing a higher priced campaign does not necessarily mean you will get better results than a cheaper campaign. And the opposite is true. In the last year or so, many "low-cost PR / publicity services" have begun to deploy throughout the Internet. Those who promise to write and release a press release to as low as $ 99. Are low cost – because frankly many are of low quality. Bigger is not necessarily better, and cheaper does not always mean a good bargain.
If you have time, tools and talent to launch and maintain your own campaign, you should. If not – is a series of public relations / publicity firms, specialists and services out there. The investigation to find the one whose services and fees match your business plan. Once business owners, entrepreneurs, inventors and learn more about your options when it comes to launching a public relations campaign – find many who can not afford not to have one.
